Critics Consensus

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. tries to distract from an unremarkable story with charismatic stars and fizzy set pieces, adding up to an uneven action thriller with just enough style to overcome its lack of substance.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) It succeeds admirably on its own terms - more so, I think, than his two Sherlock Holmes films - and while it never really transcends pastiche, its ambitions don't lie in that direction. May 28, 2019 Full Review The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Peter Bradshaw Guardian The high-octane thrill of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock films has been replaced by boring, hot guys suavely saving the world in this remake of the 60s TV show. Rated: 2/5 May 28, 2019 Full Review The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine I enjoyed The Man from U.N.C.L.E well enough, and I suspect you will, too. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a strong outing from Guy Ritchie, one his fans and others should go back and see for the first time or get back to so they can see more of the details and art on display here. Rated: 4/5 Sep 14, 2024 Full Review The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (5) John Serba Decider The filmmaker plows forward utterly unburdened by even the slightest hint of substance. It’s admirable, really. This movie makes a trifle look like a T-bone steak. Aug 1, 2024 Full Review The Man From U.N.C.L.E. | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal A ceaselessly satisfying tiki-bar timewaster that tells a common story often punctuated by innovative idiosyncrasies like a spy pausing a chase to savor a sandwich that looks very tasty or a cohort losing herself, however briefly, to a pop song's rhythms. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review John L Absolutely excellent from start to finish. Brilliantly executed movie. Stylish, more fun, and exciting. Excellent performances from the leading actors/actress. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Torin F THE MAN FROM UNCLE is a serviceable, stylish but ultimately superficial spy thriller, easy on the eyes and the mind. The movie goes through all the motions with apparent homage to the source material, but lacks any of the force and flair that makes Guy Ritchie's best films so good. In other words, this is not one of Ritchie's best by any means---it's fine I guess as a popcorn flick, but really rather forgettable.
